# CSSD / Sterilization

Tracks every instrument set through decontamination and sterilisation following WHO, AAMI ST79 and ISO 17665 — receive by scan, wash and pack with a per-instrument check, sterilizer loads released on indicator, temperature and hold-time checks, and a sterile store that issues earliest expiry first.

## The problem it solves

Without a traced cycle, a set can reach theatre without a release check, an implant load can be used before its biological indicator is read, and a positive indicator cannot be traced back to the patients it touched.

## Key features

- Receive used sets by scanning the label, counted against the instrument list, with missing or damaged items noted
- Wash (washer, manual or ultrasonic) and pack with a per-instrument check
- Sterilizer loads with a daily Bowie-Dick test; release requires a chemical indicator pass and the required temperature and hold time
- Implant loads wait for a negative biological indicator
- Sterile store issuing earliest expiry first, to a department or a patient, with returns, reprocessing and condemning
- Every pack has its own barcode and full history
- Recall: a positive biological indicator blocks the load’s packs and lists the departments and patients to follow up
- Theatre cases draw instrument sets only from the CSSD sterile store
